Injured Ranbir Kapoor forced to stop shooting of Bombay Velvet

  After experimenting with romantic films, dramas and comedies, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in a rugged avatar for the first time in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet. He will play a street fighter in the movie that’s set in the ’60s, and he has already started training for the part. 
  
  However, during the heavy-duty training that the actor has undertaken, he has managed to injure his back. “I’m on a week-long break. But I have some time as the filming only starts in about two months. I hope my back heals soon, so I can resume my training quickly,” says Ranbir, who has been visiting the physiotherapist regularly to ensure a speedy recovery. 

  
  To make sure he gets trained by the best in the field, the makers have roped in a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) expert named Ash, from Kenya for the job. “I haven’t worked on my physique for a film so far, but Bombay Velvet demands it. And I have always maintained that I would make the effort for the right film,” says Ranbir, adding, “It’s going to be a very different character (from what I have played so far). My role has shades of grey. I play an extremely ambitious guy, who is also a street fighter." 
  
  The actor also reveals that he is yet to begin work on understanding the intricacies of his character’s personality. “I have not started working on that yet, but the physical preparation has begun,” he says. The film also stars Anushka Sharma, who will play a jazz singer. 
  
  Although Ranbir is set to start shooting for Bombay Velvet around July-August this year, there have been rumours that he will also start work on Aditya Chopra’s film with Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan around the same time. Ask him about it and he clarifies, “Even I keep hearing about such projects. I also hear about me doing Zoya Akhtar’s next. But these are baseless rumours. The only films I am working on are (Abhinav Kashyap’s) Besharam, followed by Bombay Velvet and then Imtiaz Ali’s next. Plus, I am also in talks with Anurag Basu for his new film.”
